You know who else was a mediocre qb their first 6 years in the NFL? John Elway. The guy Mark Schlereth thinks is the greatest qb of his generation. Lamar Jackson has to win a Superbowl to be considered a qb. While there are only 4 active qbs that have won their team a ring. Only one of them is a top 5 guy Mahomes. Somehow Burrow(no ring), Josh Allen (No Ring) Herbert (No Ring), Lawerence (No Ring) are all considered top 5 guys, and no one questions their skills at all. Lamar Jackson has beaten all of them. Has a better record and has won more accolades than all of them. He's the mediocre one.

Brock is an overachiever considering his draft position. He’s a legit franchise QB. But come on. Let’s not overrate the guy. Too many people are hyping him up. He is not the next Tom Brady. He might be the next Russel Wilson. But he has one of the more talented offenses I’ve ever seen. Purdy is like the #5 most talented player just on his own offense.

So I have 2 thoughts. 1) we need to pump the breaks just a bit. I think there are enough doubters that supporters are going a bit hard. I'm stoked to have Purdy lead my team, but he's getting lots of Brady and Montana comparisons that I think are a bit of over compensation. He's got the potential, but a lot of people haven't lived up to that after a hot start. I hope he can be that prolific, but lets slow down on those comparisons. 2) lots of the doubters talk about being dink and dunk, a game manager, safe throws to his incredible weapons, etc. They clearly don't watch the games and should just be ignored. Just the eye test says he's pushing the ball downfield and taking calculated chances. On top of that he led the league in stats like air yards per attempt, air yards per completion, and a bunch of other numbers that completely lay out he's not just a check down merchant. He isn't attempting as many 20+ yard bombs and some other top guys, but his volume in the 10-20 yard range is huge. He's finding the guy down field way more than some people realize.
